On 2 November 2026, Arabian Business reported that Dubai Land Department has upgraded its Ejari tenancy service on the DubaiNow app. Tenants and landlords can now register, renew and cancel tenancy contracts inside the app, and they can also pay the DEWA security deposit there. The change brings several steps that used to sit in different places into a single digital journey, which is the main point of the announcement for people who rent out or live in Dubai homes.
The process is designed to be short. A contract is created and registered in one digital step, and the Ejari certificate is issued right after approval. Renewals and cancellations are completed with UAE PASS. The Dubai Land Department service page describes the sequence: the owner starts the contract and sends it to the tenant, who reviews it, signs and pays the fees. It lists a valid Emirates ID and UAE PASS as requirements.
Scale explains why this matters. The report quotes first-quarter 2026 figures of about AED 32.2 billion in rental contracts, with 118,385 new contracts and 135,607 renewals registered. Renewals therefore outnumbered new contracts in that quarter, so a faster renewal route touches a large share of the people who deal with Ejari. The service page lists a total of AED 177.75 for registration or renewal, including AED 100 for the registration itself.
The upgrade sits inside the Services 360 policy, which aims to combine related government procedures into simpler journeys, and it supports the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Dubai Digital Strategy. For utilities, the link with DEWA means the deposit can be paid in the same flow used to activate electricity and water for a property, rather than in a separate visit or application afterwards.
What this means for readers: landlords and owners of rented buildings may find that contract handling takes fewer steps, but only if their details and UAE PASS access are ready before the contract is sent. Tenants can expect less paperwork at move-in and renewal time. Fees and requirements are set by the authorities and can change, so check the official Dubai Land Department page before starting a contract.
